about the domain

hmmph. before i go into the history of clockwork-fairy, let me go into the prehistory. so, before clockwork-fairy, there was katiebonbon. this was my first website i ever owned, created at around february 10 of 2025, and it was hosted on neocities. i believe i made it because a couple of my friends and some artists i looked up to at the time all had websites of their own, so i wanted to make one myself, too. at the time, i had just started learning HTML, so the website overall was... pretty darn ugly. hell, i don't think it ever went past the point of having a simple navigation. since the whole coding thing didn't click for me, i gave up on the website and left it to rot for like a month.

that is, until somewhere around march or april, where i started working on the website again. i felt much more confident in my coding for whatever reason and decided to go back to my website, however i didn't like the domain i chose anymore. so, i looked for inspiration by browsing some older websites, and found one named fatalclockwork, owned by kur and kaz (saturnine and antique nowadays, if i'm not wrong). so i thought: "wow! clockwork sounds like a cool word. lemme steal that.", stuck it with fairy, and got the name clockwork-fairy. and so, i went on to pick up coding again, and i do feel i was much better at coding, though i still didn't really know what i was doing. it was... very messily coded, if i'm being honest. then i changed layouts a couple of times, bla bla bla, and that's pretty much the end of my history with neocities.

afterwards, i felt like i was missing something. updating my website with neocities felt quite tedious, considering i would have to manually change EVERYTHING. and after learning about php includes, i hoped to be able to do something like that, but couldn't since neocities is merely a static host. so, i went looking around for hosts that offered free hosting with php, but couldn't find any. they were all either for money, closed, or defunct. that is, until i found leprd. the fine folks over @ leprd had free hosting with php support! it was just like a dream come true! so, i quickly signed up for an application, and what do you know, i got accepted EARLY! so, i quickly went to work, and made a cute little pixel-y layout inspired by stationery. and since i now had access to includes, i was able to update much faster with ease. aaaand that's pretty much it up to now ^_^
